Samhain (Meaning; End of the Harvest)

It's a little late, but I though I'd do a post about a name pertaining to Halloween this year. That name is Samhain (Meaning; End of the Harvest). This name's meaning is the essence of the month of October, the last month of Harvest.

Now, I haven't met any Samhains, and I'm sure you haven't either. The name is actually a girl's name, and began with the ancient Celts. Here's one reason I wouldn't want to be named Samhain; It's Halloween's original name. Yes, Samhain is the name of Halloween. It's so connected with Halloween, people with the fear of Halloween have what is called Samhainopobia. And yes, that's a real thing. Now, I know that I haven't said much good about this name, but it does have a nice meaning, "End of Harvest." That meaning may seem to be horribe, as the end of harvest was always a bad thing, but in my minds eye, it may be the end of the harvest, but it is the beginning of winter. The winter snow is so beautiful, (Just so long as we don't have to deal with it). This name could even mean "The Beginning of Beauty."

Samhain is a beautiful name, but unfortunately there are some names much less unfortunate. To celebrate the gloom of Halloween, I'm going to give you a list of the most horrifying names around, which gave me nightmares for weeks after I found them!

So, in conclusion - Don't ever name your children names that don't mean much, or are downright cruel. Names like those above are a lazy way to show the meaning of your child's name. While some are in different languages, like Dent and Oxana, most are American in origin. Choose names that say their meaning in a beautiful way. Their uniqueness is the beauty that will set your child apart.
