Names For April

Hello!

April is the month unchangeably associated with spring. I love the spring personally. It is the brightest season of all, with Crocus and Daffodils blooming, the grass growing from the dull brown of winter to the lush green of spring. Also, it's the month of Easter, and whether you believe in the Easter Bunny or Jesus, it's a wonderful holiday (BTW: What's up with a rabbit carrying eggs all over the place?). There are many names I'd love to include for this month, but I will just stick to five for the boys, and five for the girls.

April Names

(For Boys)

Jesus (Meaning: God Saves)

Jesus is a name linked with April because of Easter. I like the name Jesus because of its meaning. God Saves is an incredible meaning, a message that you aren't afraid to honor God, or a higher power. Did you know that the name Jesus was not just made up for the Messiah? No, it was a name given to babies before the birth of Jesus. It's the Greek translation of Joshua. I bet you didn't know about that! I am a Christian, so I do believe in Him. It's amazing to be friends with such an amazing person. He's made my life so much better in many ways.

Hadden (Meaning:  Bright, Natural)

Hadden is a name whose meaning is practically spring! The literal meaning, Bright, Natural is the definition of this joyful season. The name comes from England, which explains why so many cricket players had this name as a given name, or surname. I like the name Hadden for its meaning. Without that meaning, the name sounds darker, but knowing the meaning takes it away. Also, it has the -en sound which is popular, so maybe that's another reason why it's appealing to me.

Dione (Meaning: Joyous Celebrant)

Dione... It's said d-EE-ah-n. While a mouthful to get around, this name has a wonderful meaning; Joyous Celebrant, which you can think of simply as he who celebrates. And who doesn't want to celebrate spring? There is no way to hold it in. I have never met a Dione, but I bet they'd be a very happy people. This name is associated with the Greek god Dion. I personally don't have much to say about Greek gods, so to me that isn't huge. Anyway, Dione is a name for a happy person, who we can all learn from.

Giorgio (Meaning: Creative, Earthy)

Giorgio is a name that has a meaning to contemplate. What can Creative and Earthly mean?To me, Giorgio is a name destined for greatness. It has a cool Italian sound. Also, with a meaning like Creative, I would expect Giorgio's to be smart. Did you know that there was a song called Giorgio entered in the Eurovision Song Contest? Well, what makes this so intriguing is that it was the first song sung in two languages- German and Italian. What was the meaning of this name again? "Creative" As I said, Giorgio's are destined for greatness.

Neo (Meaning: New Gift)

This name is an interesting one. Now, it doesn't sound springy but its meaning describes spring perfectly. Spring is a gift given anew every year. You may have heard this name before in the film The Matrix. I have never seen The Matrix, so I can't relate, unfortunately. I do, however, know that there was a lot of thinking behind this character's name. His other name is Thomas (Meaning: Twin), when he is inside the Matrix. The filmmakers thought of Neo as Thomas' mirror self, outside of the Matrix.

The name is actually African, meaning gift. Adding the popular American meaning of "New" to that of the African name meaning "Gift" makes a grand total of "New Gift," which is a meaning worth thinking about. Neo is a name that you can look at and immediately know it's meaning. Also, I like it because it's so short and futuristic.

(For Girls)

April (Meaning: Open)

April is so obviously the name of this month. It starts the three month period of months with names. It's also beautiful. Its meaning is more so. An open person is going to be well liked, and probably smart. Nobody looks at this name and thinks anything far from spring. I positively love hiking and the outdoors, so this name appeals to me. It's the name of spring.

Ava (Meaning: Pretty, Delicate Bird)

Ava is popular for a reason! Its meaning is the complete epitome of  feminine beauty. I even know of someone who wants to name their daughter Ava. It's a strange name for me, because I like it, but can't say why. Maybe because it looks sophisticated to me. Whatever the reason, Ava is delightful, like the delicate bird in its meaning. It is unknown where the name came from, as Ava is either Latin or Hebrew, possibly being short for Chava (Meaning: Living), a variant of Eve (Meaning: Living).

Evanglina (Meaning: Good News)

Evanglina is truly a beautiful name. It flows, and sounds pretty, all of the things I like in a feminine name. Evanglina also has a religious undertone giving it a deeper meaning. It is a Greek name. "Good News" is a great meaning for a newborn, and even better as life goes on. You are great news. Your unique personality is the best news of all. Your take on the world is beautiful. This name, with you attached to it, is truly great news. There is a song called Evanglina. It's a love song, but it is an unusually happy love song. The man's love lives across the Mexican border, and he is able to cross over it to her. "Good News" Hmm...

Garlanda (Meaning: Flowered Wealth)

Garlanda is an elegant name coming out of France. It is a variation of Garland, with the added -a making it a little more feminine. Actually, this name is normally a last name for those who made a living off of garlands. The meaning is very much a spring celebration, as it is true that spring is wealthy with flowers. The name's meaning leaves much for speculation, but I see it being beautiful. Did you know that Judy Garland's last name was actually Gumm? She changed her last name to Garland because their stage manager said that they, "Looked prettier than a garland of flowers," when she was performing with her sisters.

Eudora (Meaning: Good Gift)

Does this one sound familiar? It's because you've read Peanuts! A not-so-well-known character in the comic strip named Eudora made several appearances. She has longer hair, and always wears her signature hat. She worries a lot, for example, concerned about being eaten by an antelope. Funny how her name means good gift. I like the name because it has the name Dora (Meaning: Gift) worked into it, kind of a two in one. Also, it sounds exotic.
