Leavenworth (Meaning: Stable Settlement)

Today I am going to write a post, not about a person, but a place. That place is Leavenworth Washington (Meaning; From the Farm). Leavenworth means stable settlement, and it sure is. The town started as a little mining town called Icicle Flats. The mines were plentiful... until they weren't.  Leavenworth was going to be a ghost town. But, the city was swooped out of death when a decision was made. The town would turn into a Bavarian themed village, and the hills around Leavenworth were asking for it! So, Leavenworth was renovated into the town it is today. 

 My family and I went to Leavenworth just recently on a vacation. We stayed two nights there, and besides for the horrendous heat and the smoke, it was glorious. Growing up in that area we had been there a few times before. We had come to the famous Christmas Lighting Festival when I was younger, and other time we came and just walked through town. We never really explored it like we did this time, and so we had more time to explore. We went up into the mountains, up a highway, past Lake Wenatchee (Meaning: Robe of the Rainbow), and back to Leavenworth. 

My favorite place we stopped at was just up the valley from Leavenworth. There is a turnoff from the highway where there is a trailhead, and what appears to be the ruin of some building. We walked up the trail, and met a couple who lives just down the street from us. We crossed an old bridge, went down to the creek and it was gorgeous! Few places that I've been are more beautiful! Huge boulders had fallen into the creek which was a dark, graceful blue. The water smelled clean, and the green mountains in the distance were an amazing backdrop. While it was hot, the breeze brought a cool breath. Can you tell I really like the wild? 

Leavenworth is an amazing little town. But that is no wonder if you look at the name. The meaning of Leavenworth technically isn't known. But Leaven is an agent in bread that solidifies the dough, and Worth means settlement. So, Leavenworth means Stable (or solid) Settlement. It brought itself up from the brink of abandonment. Leavenworth is a settlement that will be here for a long time. What is the name of your favorite town? Where is your favorite place? Do you know someone who had a name that started as a place name? Hello Everyone! Today I am going to write about the enigma that was Kaspar Hauser (Meaning; House of the Keeper of the Treasure), and my thoughts about him and his meaning. I only recently found out the sad story of Kaspar, and it inspired me to write about the unfortunate life of this young man.  The story starts on the 26th of May, 1828 in Nuremburg Germany. Samhain (Meaning; End of the Harvest)

Hello everyone! It's a little late, but I though I'd do a post about a name pertaining to Halloween this year. That name is Samhain (Meaning; End of the Harvest). This name's meaning is the essence of the month of October, the last month of Harvest. Now, I haven't met any Samhains, and I'm sure you haven't either. The name is actually a girl's name, and began with the ancient Celts. Here's one reason I wouldn't want to be named Samhain; It's Halloween's original name. Yes, Samhain is the name of Halloween. It's so connected with Halloween, people with the fear of Halloween have what is called Samhainopobia. And yes, that's a real thing. Now, I know that I haven't said much good about this name, but it does have a nice meaning, "End of Harvest." Hello! May is my favorite month, as I generally find April still a little too cold where I live. But now, Spring is in full swing! May is a month full of interesting things. I'm glad I do this blog, or I'd never know what May brings! The month celebrates May Day. A meteor shower appears in the sky at this time of the year, starting April 21, and ending on May 20. It's name? Eta Aquarids. (Meaning: Luminous  Water Bearer) The birthstone is Emerald. And, the flower of the month is a Lily of the Valley. I didn't know there were flowers for every month.
